5 things I learned after watching Dune
Films such as Dune give me hope that not everything that comes out of modern Hollywood is donkey shit.
This account prides itself in reaffirming time and time again how modern filmmaking has transformed mostly into explosive shit-fests pieced together by dumb, predictable and politically charged writing.
Superhero movies are the best example of this phenomenon to the point that the biggest names in the industry have been calling them out, comparing them to theme park rides or as I would like to call them “utter shite”.
One of the brave names behind such a campaign is Denis Villeneuve, the French-Canadian master of imagery and expert in tackling exceedingly dense plot lines. His recent work Dune is the third attempt in the apparently impossible task of adapting Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel. Now, has the director which claims to separate himself from predictable and uninspired storytelling succeeded in this daunting task?
Before I answer, two things I must mention. One, I had never seen any film related to this source material nor I have read the book. I think this provides the “advantage” of me being able to give some perspectives as a total virgin to Herbert’s world. And number two, I am not interested in providing you with a traditional review of the film which you probably have already seen…
