Another low point for The Oscars

Cinema faces a crisis like never before. And no. It has nothing to do with the winners.

The Oscars ceremony, as I’ve explained here, has transformed over the years into the ultimate cringe show.

La La Land winning and then immediately losing the Best Picture Award back in 2017 was the last good memory I hold of this ceremony. I realized right there and then I’d rather stick my eyeballs in a sea of needles than watching that Godforsaken spectacle ever again.

But even I couldn’t escape the infamous “incident” that took place at the 94th Academy Awards.

We all know what it is by now and I have no intention of talking about it further. As brutally awkward as this incident was, I think it helped shining a light on a deeper issue.

I can’t believe how determined Hollywood has been in their own self-destruction. Their hara-kiri has been not only painful to watch, it has been surprisingly effective at wrecking their own reputation in less than 10 years. I don’t think they could’ve done a better job on purpose. It’s astounding to watch.

First, it started when they blamed relatively poor ratings decades ago on a large running time. I mean, they seemed to have forgotten about the fact that their most watched shows lasted a little over three hours but whatever.

Movies. Video Games. Watches. If you are passionate about any of these, I guarantee I’ll piss you off at least once.
