I've heard that one justification was that the schedule was a shambles and they ran out of time. As much as I can understand that, I just find it pretty disappointing AI had to be used. I still refuse to accept AI "needs" to be in any film. We managed without it for centuries. A somewhat pathetic excuse, in my view.

Though I also agree boycotting the film for this reason only is taking it a step too far.
