Maybe not looking the part is the key to success.

Not liking dive watches as a watch enthusiast is pretty much like saying you support freedom of speech at an ANTIFA rally. Best case scenario, you’ll get ruthless stares and a couple of man-spit in your eyes. But if you say that on a bad day, let’s just hope you have decent medical insurance. Take a look at pretty much every watch collection on Youtube and you will see at least one dive watch somewhere in there. It’s a classic style and quite simply one of the most demanded (if not the most demanded) type of wristwatch on the market.

You see, when I was starting my watch collecting journey, I didn’t really like dive watches. I can only compare my initial disgust towards dive watches with my irrational hatred for Julia Roberts I had a while ago. The very act of seeing them if I wasn’t prepared was enough to make my blood boil.

I thought they were bulky. I thought they were unattractive. I thought they were expensive. I hated the fact that most of them didn’t have a see-through case back for mechanical alternatives. What’s the point of owning a mechanical watch if you can’t see the mechanical beauty beating inside them? And just like Julia Roberts, I was ready to turn my back away with my middle finger raised proudly at that…
