There is something you can learn from “Taken”
If you want to create a sensational action film, this film is like a tutorial for you.
Thanks to the fact that the 007 hype train is at a glorious high peak now, there’s no better time to talk about action films. Enjoyed by young boys, girls, ladies, gentlemen and wokey-whiners alike; there is something magical and intrinsically exciting about seeing a bunch of people fighting each other to death on screen. I guess it tells us a lot about human nature, huh?
You may have noticed though that the action genre, for critics and audiences alike, is perceived to be rather… dim-witted. People think an action flicks starring the likes of Liam Neeson, Jean-Claude van Damme or Tom Cruise alike are as stimulating to the mind as having a 24 hour marathon of public TV infomercials. If we’re honest, there’s a very good reason for that. After all, when was the last time an action film left you thinking for hours after you left the theatre?
Action films in the modern era are good at what they do. They keep you on the edge of your seat, they are exciting to watch and they leave you staring at the screen like a zombie as 2 hours simply fly by you. They excel at wasting time for someone who wants to simply get away from their shitty reality at least for a little while.
