Because creating an emotion, even if it’s a negative one, is better than not creating one at all.

Gamers have a strange relationship when it comes to anger.

A rather primal emotion by itself can drive us into obsession for months. We fall victim to our pointless outrages as we spend 5 hours in a row attempting to beat that asshole bully of a boss in Elden Ring. Or we arrive home after a stressful day at work intending to blow off some steam only to become infuriated with some faceless 14 year-old twat beating us to shit in every single match in online Call of Duty Warzone.

Is this a bad habit? Yes. Should we stop doing playing things which infuriate us? Maybe. Will we ever actually do it? No. Does this make sense? Again, no. But it is what it is.

Every single gamer out there has some sort of “toxic relationship” with that one title which drives us completely nuts yet we keep playing. An “I can fix her” attitude begins to form up faster than athlete’s foot on a New York hobo. There’s emotional attachment which simply can’t be ignored.

And for me, this toxic relationship has a single name. And funny enough… it’s the FIFA franchise.
