I would argue that music’s greatest quality is that it’s the only art form I know of that everyone enjoys irrevocably. Sure, your taste might be different than mine but I guarantee you or anyone on the face of this planet has never said “I hate music”. It hasn’t happened. It doesn’t happen. It will not happen.
Now, when it comes to instrumental compositions in media, film scores tend to get all the attention. Lots of enthusiasts, me included, have rambled endlessly about how incredibly iconic, captivating and moving film scores happen to be. While I do agree the seventh art has given us plenty of magnificent tunes, I can claim that the best work, the most astonishing and achingly beautiful pieces, I have found them in the unexpected world of video games.
So today, I have compiled the single greatest tracks I’ve ever heard in my life while holding a game controller in my hands. Obviously, they aren’t ranked in any way or form. They are nothing but a collection of memories which have inspired me to learn the piano and fantasize one day to collaborate with any of these frankly terrifying geniuses.
