What the hell’s going on with Seiko?
Quality control issues detected! The funniest part? They still keep going up in price.
Seiko, Tissot, Mido, Hamilton. I would say we could pretty much all agree that these four companies are in the “affordable” side of the watch spectrum. But the fact of the matter is that you still pay good money for their offerings, particularly for their mechanical movements. Which brings me to over to how incredibly stupid it is that a watch company that charges 500 bucks (or more) for their models… for them to have quality control issues.
Say what you want about Swiss brands. Are they snobby? They certainly can be (just look at Rolex or Patek Philippe for Christ’s sake). Do they charge way too much money? Of course. I’ve wrote about it. Do they flood the market with limited editions ultimately making you question what the hell “limited” means? Absolutely. I’m looking at you, Omega.
However, we can all pretty much agree that their quality control tends to be superb. Before anyone comes screaming at me in the comments saying that they’ve bought Swiss pieces that turned out to be crappy, what I mean is that you will seldom find unacceptable issues in Swiss watches when you pay good money for them. For 1,000 bucks or more, horror stories shared by costumers certainly do tend to be the minority.
