“The hunt is better than the catch”
There is something very problematic behind this apparently innocent statement, (from a watch lover’s perspective).
Ah, expensive hobbies. Perhaps the second dumbest way of shooting yourself in the foot (apart from the real thing of course) is to willingly participate in a money-draining hobby. Name any pricey venture you want: Car collecting, animal rescuer, racing horse owner, concert freak. All of them share essential problems because of their very exclusive, dumb and expensive nature.
We, watch enthusiasts and collectors, know this better than anyone. This becomes really obvious for example when we are trying to explain the missus “logically” why on Earth we spent 5 grand on that Omega.
